PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without tight end Pat Freiermuth for two to three weeks due to a hamstring injury, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac.
Freiermuth left in Week 4 against the Houston Texans for what Dulac described afterward as “not just a tweak.” He underwent an MRI and is not set to be sidelined for multiple weeks because of the injury.
While Freiermuth only caught five passes for 46 yards this season, he contributed two touchdowns through the first three games.
Without him, the Steelers will turn to Connor Heyward and rookie Darnell Washington. While Washington has played 44% of the team’s offensive snaps this season, he’s yet to catch a pass. Meanwhile, Heyward has caught just two passes for 19 yards.
If the team is looking for a third tight end to have on the roster, Rodney Williams is currently on their practice squad, and familiar face Zach Gentry could be signed off the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad as well.
