PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers waited with bated breath for news about how their starting quarterback, former Pitt Panther Kenny Pickett was handling the knee injury he suffered against the Houston Texans.
But it appears that the former Pitt star is trending in the right direction. Reports from earlier in the week indicated his injury was less severe – just a bone bruise – than some had feared and he expects to play this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens.
“I feel good, good,” Pickett told the media this week after a couple days of practice. “I’ll be ready to go by Sunday.”
Pickett practiced this week while wearing a large brace on his left knee. Pickett said he hasn’t decided whether or not he’ll play in it yet. Backup Mitch Trubisky took “a few extra” snaps with the first team in practice, but Pickett said he got as many as he needed to be ready for gametime.
Pickett was hurt while taking a sack on a key fourth down late in the second half. The Steelers had a fourth and one lined up in Texans territory and opted to pass, but the pressure got to Pickett quickly and he was unable to escape. As he was dragged down, his leg got caught at an awkward angle. He had to be helped off the field and did not return to the game.
