PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving on from offensive tackle Chuks Okorafor as they release three players, the team announced Monday.
The Steelers are officially parting ways by releasing Okorafor, quarterback Mitch Trubisky and punter Pressley Harvin III. The moves came on the first day of the offseason as the team looks to create cap space prior to free agency.
Okorafor was the Steelers’ third-round pick in 2018 and spent his entire career in Pittsburgh. In 2020, he became the team’s full-time starter at right tackle and remained in the role until the midway point of this past season. After starting 59 games, the team replaced him with first-round rookie Broderick Jones, for what they said was a behavioral issue.
The move creates roughly $8.8 million in cap space for the Steelers as Okorafor was set to earn $11.8 million this season. With Trubisky and Harvin released as well, Pittsburgh will add approximately $12.8 million to their available cap space.
Pittsburgh could look for another right tackle this offseason as Jones is a natural left tackle. With Dan Moore Jr. entering the final year of his rookie deal, he could remain with the team, but it’s still expected the Steelers search for another option either in free agency or the NFL Draft.
