PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers made several cuts to key backups this week as their offseason begins in earnest, including a multi-year special teams starter.
The Steelers announced that they had released punter Pressley Harvin, along with quarterback Mitch Trubisky and tackle Chukwuma Okorafor, the team announced. Pittsburgh saves $12.65 million in cap space with these moves as they look to create room for free agency and the NFL Draft.
Harvin’s career in Pittsburgh featured its highs and lows. He set a career-high in punting yards but, in 11 of his 16 games during the 2023 season, he averaged fewer than 45 yards per punt.
Over three seasons and 47 games with the Steelers, Harvin – a former seventh-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft – averaged 43.7 yards per kick and landed 34.6% of those punts inside the 20-yard line and 6.5% of them for touchbacks.
Brad Wing was signed to a practice squad deal in late September and appeared in two games while Harvin was injured but released in October before resigning to the practice squad in January. He has since signed a new contract with the San Antonio Brahmas of the United Football League.
