PITTSBURGH, PA– The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding to their cornerback room, signing former Houston Texan Desmond King to their 53-man roster, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

King, 28, has played 95 games in his NFL career, including 53 starts, accumulating nine interceptions, two touchdowns, three forced fumbles, 33 pass deflections and 8.5 sacks.

Over the last two seasons, he’s recorded five interceptions.

King will join a new cornerback room in Pittsburgh with an opportunity to compete with James Pierre and Joey Porter Jr. for playing time. Patrick Peterson and Levi Wallace are the assumed starters, but will likely rotate throughout games to utilize the team’s depth.

The Steelers will need to remove a player from their 53-man roster to make room for King, and that player is assumed to be punter Braden Mann. The Steelers kept two punters on their initial roster in anticipation that they would make another roster move.
