PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers continue their pre-draft visits, bringing in the NFL Draft’s top cornerback, Christian Gonzalez, along with two others on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
Gonzalez, TCU lineman Steve Avila, South Carolina cornerback Darius Rush, and Georgia Tech defensive end Keion White will all be in the facility to meet with the Steelers.
Gonzalez joins a highly-touted group of cornerbacks to visit the Steelers. So far, the team has scheduled top 30 meetings with Penn State’s Joey Porter Jr., Maryland’s Deonte Banks, Illinois’ Devon Witherspoon, Mississippi State’s Emmanual Forbes, and Miami’s Tyrique Stevenson.
Gonzalez is expected to be the first cornerback off the board in the NFL Draft. However, the Steelers have been open about leaving the door open for a trade. The First-Team Pac-10, who recorded four picks last season, could be on their list of potential targets to move for.
Here’s what All Steelers NFL Draft analyst Derrick Bell said about Gonzalez in his Scouting Report:
“It’s very clear that Christian Gonzales is loaded with talent and it’s also important to note that he won’t turn 21 years old until a couple of months after he’s drafted into the NFL. As it currently stands after his breakout junior campaign, Gonzalez projects as a year one starter in the NFL, preferably in a scheme that will allow him to use his length and speed at the line of scrimmage.”
