PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers are making sure they get as much knowledge of one of the NFL Draft’s top offensive linemen before they leave Mobile, Alabama. Down at the 2024 Senior Bowl, the team has met with Oregon’s star center, Jackson Powers-Johnson, not once but twice thus far.
Powers-Johnson told reporters he has met with the team two times during the practice week. He described The first one as “saying hello,” and his second, scheduled for Wednesday night, was anticipated to be a formal meeting.
“Talked to Coach Tomlin yesterday a little bit,” Johnson-Powers said. “Just introduced myself, said hello. I had an interview with them, I think, two days ago. I think I have an interview with them tonight as well.”
All Steelers’ Nick Martin reported throughout the week that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was closely monitoring the offensive and defensive linemen during practice. At times, he stuck his head in to say something to players and spent some time talking with Powers-Johnson during drills.
The Oregon center is expected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and could be floating right around that 20 mark the Steelers hold. With Mason Cole entering the final year of his deal, Pittsburgh could look at adding a first-round lineman in back-to-back years with Powers-Johnson.
