PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers have made another change on their practice squad, signing safety Jalen Elliott while releasing outside linebacker David Perales.

Elliott spent time with the Steelers during training camp but was released prior to the final roster trim. The former Notre Dame defensive back returns as part of the practice squad while the team prepares to lose Minkah Fitzpatrick to a hamstring injury, potentially.

As of now, Fitzpatrick is only ruled out for Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans. If he was to miss more time, Elliott or Trenton Thompson could be candidates to be elevated to the active roster.

Elliott, 25, went undrafted before spending the 2021 season with the Detroit Lions. He played eight games, including one start, recording 12 tackles. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed an 83.3% completion rate on passes thrown his way, including two catches for touchdowns.
