PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a change to their cornerback room, signing rookie fifth-round pick Darius Rush off of the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. They are also seeking a trade for Desmond King, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Rush was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2023 NFL Draft but failed to make the 53-man roster. He was claimed by the Chiefs but was eventually waived and signed back to their practice squad.
The Steelers brought Rush in for a visit during the draft process, which should still be somewhat fresh in their memory. A former wide receiver, the South Carolina standout intercepted two passes and recorded 38 tackles in his final season with the Gamecocks.
Rush will stay on the Steelers active roster for a minimum of four weeks after being signed. The team will need to resolve their direction with King before making the move official.
