PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding another running back to their roster, signing Godwin Igwebuike to their active roster off of the Atlanta Falcons practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
With Anthony McFarland landing on Injured Reserve due to a knee injury, the Steelers needed to add a third running back to their roster. Igwebuike will join Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, with limited expectations to play on offense, but should see the field in contributions on special teams.
Igwebuike has spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks before finding his way to Atlanta and then Pittsburgh.
In his career, he rushed just 21 times for 122 yards and a touchdown.
Igwebuike will be viewed as another option as a kick returner after Gunner Olszewski’s lone return was a giant question mark. The former All-Pro toe-tapped the ball in bounds near the 10-yard line on a kick that would have went out of bounds and gave Pittsburgh the ball at the 40-yard line.
In Igwebuike’s career, he’s returned 39 kicks for 1,005 yards.
