PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers offense has struggled early to start the season, and despite their Week 2 win over the Cleveland Browns, head coach Mike Tomlin acknowledged the group needs to improve moving forward.

“We’re not going to make knee-jerk reactions in an effort to make wholesale changes in an effort to change that outcome,” Tomlin said. “But we do acknowledge that two is a pattern. We’ve had two outings that are not up to snuff in that regard, so it has our attention as we’re preparing for this next one.”

In 38 games with Matt Canada as offensive coordinator, the Steelers have scored 20 points just 29 times. They’ve also failed to reach 400 yards in every one of those showings. In Week 2, they were outscored by their defense and totaled just nine first downs.

“We’re all in this thing together, man,” Tomlin said. “We’re not assigning blame to anyone. Obviously, it starts with coaching; we’ve got to coach better. We’ve got to get these guys playing faster, and surer. We’ve got to start faster.”

In the fourth quarter, fans filled Acrisure Stadium with “Fire Canada” chants following a failed 3rd and 1 attempt on a quarterback run. The crowd was heard, but Tomlin isn’t hiding from the situation.

“I appreciate their passion,” Tomlin said. “… This is the sports entertainment business. It’s our job to win and thus entertain them. We don’t begrudge them for that. We want them to fat and sassy and spoiled. That’s our job.”

At the same time, Tomlin acknowledged he still has confidence in Canada.

Right now, the Steelers are not making changes to their offense, but with such talent across the board, fixing the struggles are imminent for Pittsburgh.
