One of the biggest storylines of the offseason is what the Ravens are going to do this season after finally building around QB Lamar Jackson. ESPN analyst and former NFL safety Ryan Clark believes he has the answer.
“My actual bold prediction is that the Baltimore Ravens will win the Super Bowl,” Clark said. “I just think it’s about who Lamar Jackson has been, without having help. So now you give him help. You give him a new offensive coordinator [in Todd Monken], and along with that, you have a defense that improves the entire season. I think they’re going to be a scary team.”
It may come as a surprise hearing those words from a former Steeler. Clark played safety for Pittsburgh from 2006-13, helping the team win Super Bowl XLIII.
However, Clark thinks it will be Baltimore hoisting the Lombardi Trophy next after signing wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor in free agency and drafting WR Zay Flowers in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
“You add Odell Beckham Jr. You go out and you get Zay Flowers in the first round. You give Lamar Jackson $185 million, guaranteed. That has to equal wins,” Clark added. “But I also think it falls at the feet of Lamar Jackson, so people will be paying attention to that.”
Clark makes a good point. The offense, which once lacked playmakers, can now be one of the best in the NFL with its new weapons. But the 2019 NFL MVP must prove he can lead the Ravens past the divisional round of the playoffs, which he has yet to do.
Either way, Baltimore is certainly a team to watch in 2023 to see if it meets the high expectations of those around it or crumbles under the pressure.
