PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers have been tabbed the trade target for Arizona Cardinals linebacker Isaiah Simmons.

Highlighting three trades the Steelers should make before the 2023 season kicks off, Bleacher Report’s Joe Tansey names Simmons as a “high-reward” move Pittsburgh should go after.

“Simmons needs a big season to increase his free-agent value, but he may go unrecognized on an Arizona Cardinals team expected to contend for the league’s worst record,” Tansey writes.

“Pittsburgh could take a flier on the 24-year-old linebacker in a trade that should not cost much because of his impending free agency.”

Simmons is still a young versatile linebacker in the league, with some coverage ability shown over the last three seasons. After transitioning from safety to linebacker, he’s recorded four interceptions in three seasons, including two last year and a career-high four sacks.

The Steelers need a coverage option on the inside, and they may know that themselves. After bringing in Kwon Alexander for a visit but not signing him, Pittsburgh could still be on the market for an inside linebacker.

Depending on what Simmons would cost, he could be an option to fill one o their final two roster spots, and compete with Mark Robinson and Elandon Roberts for playing time.

“A potential Simmons deal would be a low-risk, high-reward move for the Steelers. If he does not star in 2023, they could let him walk and only burn a Day 3 draft pick in the process,” Tansey writes.
