Steelers Listening To Trade Offers for WR Diontae Johnson

The Pittsburgh Steelers are listening to offers for their starting wide receiver.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers are open to trading wide receiver Diontae Johnson this offseason and have interest from a few teams around the league, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

According to the report, the Steelers are “listening” to offers from other teams as they prepare for the free agency market. This comes after reports from The Athletic claimed Johnson may want out of Pittsburgh, pushing the team to move on this offseason.

Johnson is entering the final year of his contract and it’s unlikely he gets a new deal with the team afterward. With George Pickens developing into a star, the team will likely stick with the younger option and look for pieces around him after Johnson’s departure.

When it comes to this season, Pittsburgh just released veteran Allen Robinson, leaving Johnson, Pickens and Calvin Austin as their only wide receivers on the roster who were part of the 53-man team last season.

To move on from Johnson, the Steelers will likely need to add at least two more pieces to their offense. They’ve done homework in the NFL Draft, meeting with top options like Brian Thomas and Rome Odunze at the NFL Combine. They could also look to sign a veteran in free agency such as Tyler Boyd.
