Steelers Release WR Allen Robinson

The Pittsburgh Steelers are moving on from veteran wide receiver after just one season.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers have released wide receiver Allen Robinson after just one season with the team, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

The move comes as a cap causality, freeing up $10 million in available cap space for the Steelers this offseason. Pittsburgh was reportedly interested in keeping Robinson, and met with his representatives at the NFL Combine to try and work out a lower salary number.

Apparently, nothing was able to come from their meeting, resulting in the release of Robinson.

Robinson was acquired for a seventh-round pick last offseason in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams. In his single season with the Steelers, he recorded 34 catches for 280 yards.

The Steelers cut both Robinson and cornerback Patrick Peterson in the same day, freeing up over $16 million in cap space. They now have roughly $30 million in salary cap heading into free agency.
