Pat McAfee Loves Steelers Offensive Coordinator Hire

The Pittsburgh Steelers found their next offensive coordinator, and Pat McAfee believes it’s a steal.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers made their decision on an offensive coordinator, hiring former Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith. While Smith brings plenty of success as an OC with the Tennessee Titans to Pittsburgh, not every fan is pleased with the move. But ESPN show host Pat McAfee says it’s a brilliant call by the Steelers.

“I think he’s going to love being in Pittsburgh,” McAfee said. “I think Pittsburgh is going to love Artie Smith, and I think Artie is going to love Pittsburgh.”

Smith’s time in Atlanta may not have been a success, but when he was the offensive coordinator for the Titans, he helped bring the team to an AFC Championship game, and Ryan Tannehill made his first Pro Bowl appearance while also winning Comeback Player of the Year.

“Let’s remember that the reason why he had that head coaching job is because of what he did in the Tennessee Titans organization with Derrick Henry, [Ryan] Tannehill, and the boy was so good he got a head coaching gig basically out of nowhere after sleeping on couches for a decade or so,” McAfee said. “I think this is a good hire for the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

The Steelers are hoping this is the type of splash that gets their offense back to where it should be, and there’s some belief this hire will be exactly what they need.

Team President Art Rooney II said the team has a vision of what the Steelers offense will look like this season, and with Smith’s success in Tennessee, there’s a strong chance he can mold Pittsburgh into a group that reaches some of the same heights the Titans once had.
