PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers have shut down tight end Pat Freiermuth for at least the next four weeks, placing him on Injured Reserve, the team announced.
Freiermuth suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4 that held him out of Week 5 against the Baltimore Ravens. After the bye week, he returned to practice with plans to play in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately, he re-aggravated the injury during practice and will now miss a minimum of four weeks.
Freiermuth has caught eight passes this season, two of which were touchdowns.
With Freiermuth sidelined, the Steelers will rely on Darnell Washington, Connor Heyward and Rodney Williams at tight end.
The team also activated wide receiver Diontae Johnson from IR after missing the last four weeks. He’ll return to the field this weekend against the Rams for his first game since Week 1.
