PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding another inside linebacker to their room, signing Kwon Alexanders, according to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
Pending a physical, Alexander will join the Steelers inside linebacker core that signed Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts, Tanner Muse and Nick Kwiatkoski this offseason. The 28-year-old is entering his ninth NFL season, spending last year with the New York Jets.
Alexander adds a coverage option that the Steelers needed last season. In 95 games, including 86 starts, he’s recorded eight interceptions and 590 tackles. He’s also accumulated 12.5 sacks and 11 forced fumbles.
The Steelers brought Alexander in for a visit earlier in the offseason but did not reach a deal before he left. He’ll now join the team at Saint Vincent College as they approach Week 2 of training camp, and should have an opportunity to fight for a starting spot alongside Holcomb or Roberts.
