PITTSBURGH, PA — Is Kenny Pickett ready to explode onto the scene this season? The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback will enter his first full season as a starter, and one Hall of Fame-caliber cornerback believes he’s a dark horse for MVP.

If you’re a betting person, now would be the time to jump on Pickett being named MVP this season. It’s a longshot, according to the sportsbooks, but to one former player, it’s a real possibility.

“Dark horse candidates are always bad bets because they’re always on average-ass teams and they need everything to go right for their team to win,” Ronde Barber of the 33rd Team wrote. “Kenny Pickett showed that he has some serious game down the stretch in 2022 and that he is suited for the NFL. He’s got two really good young receivers and a stud tight end. If the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense rebounds, he’ll get them into the playoffs.”

Pickett is amongst a list of six dark horse candidates the 33rd Team released. The others on the list include Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Russell Wilson, Trey Lance and Justin Jefferson.

Sportsbettingdime.com currently has Pickett’s MVP odds at +4500 heading into training camp. As expected, Patrick Mahomes leads the way with +700 odds, followed by Joe Burrow at +750.

The Steelers are building steam heading into training camp, and the notion that this team can be a threat in the AFC is becoming a popular trend amongst NFL analysts.

If they do so, it’s likely because Pickett had a season that firmly secured him amongst the good quarterbacks in the NFL. And if he wins MVP, it’d be a good time to buy his jersey, because chances are he’s not leaving Pittsburgh anytime soon.
