The Steelers training camp will kick off in a week and NFL Network is doing their yearly series where they predict the records of each team on a game-by-game basis right from the outset. On NFL Network Friday, Adam Rank broke down how he sees the 2023 season playing out for the Steelers.
It starts out with the team knocking off the San Francisco 49ers, but falling to the Cleveland Browns. After that, they would defeat the Las Vegas Raiders but then rip off four straight losses against the Texans, Ravens, Rams, and Jaguars to fall to 2-5. It does not get much better from there. While they would reel off wins against the Titans and Packers, Rank sees Pittsburgh then falling to the Browns and Bengals to fall to 4-7.
Following that, the team would then rattle off 5 of 6 to finish 9-8 and preserve Mike Tomlin’s non-losing season streak with the only loss coming to the New England Patriots. That would be a mirror of the 2022 season almost exactly, except the Steelers came from 3-7 to finish 9-8 last season. It seems almost a little too formulaic, though Rank’s prediction of the Browns sweeping the Steelers is an eyebrow raiser.
If that would happen, it would be the first time the Browns would sweep the Steelers since 1988. It really has been that long since that has happened. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh would split with both the Ravens and Bengals to come to 2-4 in the AFC North on the season.
A season such as this one can not be out of the realm of possibility given the team’s strong division and some gelling the team will still have to do over the early course of the season. But the team will need to start off fast in order to avoid not making playoffs for a second straight season.
